This is a full explanation of all configuration parameters, organized by section. Written for beginner server administrators.
[SERVER] Basic server settings
Server Name
Default: "My Enshrouded Server"
This is the name other players will see in the server list. Pick something unique so your friends can find you easily.
Max Players
Default: 16
The maximum number of players that can be online at the same time. Recommended value is between 1 and 16. The more players, the more resources the server requires.
Game Settings Preset
Default: Default
Selects a pre-defined difficulty. Options: Default (normal), Relaxed (easy), Hard (hard), Survival (survival), Custom (manual - required if you want the [CUSTOM] section settings to take effect).
Enable Text Chat
0 = disabled, 1 = enabled
Enables or disables in-game text chat. Useful for servers with children or strict moderation.
Enable Voice Chat
0 = disabled, 1 = enabled
Enables or disables voice chat. If you prefer to use Discord, you can turn this off.
Voice Chat Mode
Default: Proximity
Proximity means you only hear players who are close to you in the game - a realistic feel. Can be changed to global chat if you want everyone to hear each other at all times.
[USER GROUP] User groups and access rights
Enshrouded uses a system of 4 groups with different permissions. Each player joins a group via password. Change the default passwords before launching your server!
Admin Password & Reserved Slots
Password: ChangeMe1 | Slots: 0
Admin password - full access: can kick/ban players, edit the world, bases, and inventories. Only for trusted people! Reserved Slots = how many spots are reserved exclusively for this group.
Friend Password & Reserved Slots
Password: ChangeMe2 | Slots: 1
For friends - can edit the world and bases and access inventories, but cannot kick/ban. Suitable for close co-players.
Guest Password & Reserved Slots
Password: ChangeMe3 | Slots: 3
For regular players with limited permissions. They can play but have no administrative functions. Ideal for a wider circle of acquaintances.
Visitor Password & Reserved Slots
Password: ChangeMe4 | Slots: 0
Minimal access - view only. Useful if you want to invite someone to "peek in" without being able to make changes.
[CUSTOM] Custom gameplay settings
These settings ONLY work if Game Settings Preset is set to "Custom"!
Enemy Damage Factor
Default: 1
The multiplier for damage dealt by enemies. 1 = normal. 0.5 = enemies hit half as hard (easier). 2 = double damage (harder).
Enemy Health Factor
Default: 1
The amount of health enemies have. A higher value means "tankier" enemies; a lower value makes them easier to kill.
Boss Damage Factor / Boss Health Factor
Default: 1
Same as Enemy Damage/Health, but specifically for boss enemies. You can make bosses easier without changing regular enemies.
Player Health / Mana / Stamina Factor
Default: 1
Multipliers for player health, mana, and stamina. Increase them for easier gameplay, decrease for a more hardcore experience.
Combat / Mining / Exploration XP Factor
Default: 1
XP multipliers for combat, mining, and exploration. If you want faster leveling - raise them above 1. For example, 2 = level up twice as fast.
Resource Drop Factor
Default: 1
How many resources drop from enemies and objects. 2 = double the amount - useful for creative or relaxed servers.
Mining Damage Factor
Default: 1
How effective mining is. A higher value means you break blocks faster.
Plant Growth Speed Factor
Default: 1
The growth speed of plants in the game. 2 = grows twice as fast - convenient for farming.
Factory Production Speed Factor
Default: 1
The production speed in workshops and factories. A higher value = faster crafting.
Enable Durability
0 = disabled, 1 = enabled
Whether items wear out and break. Turn it off (0) if you don't want to deal with repairing equipment.
Enable Starving Debuff
0 = disabled, 1 = enabled
Whether players suffer a debuff when starving. Turn off for a more relaxed game without worrying about food.
Tombstone Mode
Default: AddBackpackMaterials
What happens upon death. AddBackpackMaterials = backpack materials are added back on respawn - more forgiving. Can be changed to a full item loss mode for hardcore play.
Weather Frequency
Default: Normal
How often the weather changes. Options: Rare, Normal, Often. Rare bad weather makes the game more visually pleasant; frequent weather adds challenge.
Random Spawner Amount
Default: Normal
How many random enemies and creatures appear in the world. Few = quieter, Many = more chaotic and dangerous.
Aggro Pool Amount
Default: Normal
How many enemies "activate" and chase players simultaneously. A higher value = greater chaos in battles.
Day Duration Nanoseconds
Default: 1800000000000 (30 min)
The length of daytime in nanoseconds. The default value is approximately 30 real-world minutes. Increase for longer days, decrease for shorter ones.
Night Duration Nanoseconds
Default: 720000000000 (12 min)
The length of nighttime - approximately 12 real-world minutes by default. Night is more dangerous, which is why it is shorter than the day.
[SYSTEM] System settings
Auto Update
1 = enabled, 0 = disabled
Whether the server automatically updates on boot. It is recommended to keep this enabled (1) so you always have the latest version of the game.
Validate
1 = enabled, 0 = disabled
Verifies Steam files on every update. Keep it disabled (0) during normal operation - only enable when troubleshooting, as it significantly slows down startup.
